Scarecrow Makeup

What’s the first thing you’d grab if challenged with doing a scarecrow makeup? The first thing I think of is burlap. But, how do I use burlap as makeup?

This was an interesting makeup to seek out. Some used only makeup and shading techniques, while others used fabric, liquid latex, and other household items to create the look.

Doing the research on scarecrows and how they came about, I learned a lot about these straw-filled humanoids. Hopefully, this little piece of scarecrow history, videos and photos will help get your creative juices flowing!

What is a scarecrow?

Scarecrows are a symbol of the harvest season. You start seeing them everywhere — in hobby shops, in front lawns, on doors and desks — at the start of September. Some are cute and cuddly creatures with a less than menacing look. But the scarecrow of earlier times served a much different purpose.

Scarecrows were created to scare away creatures trying to eat precious garden crops. They can be found in history dating back many, many years, which makes the scarecrow an interesting and versatile look to try.
